Over the weekend we had some wet weather, so I did a little burning up to the lot. Had a huge pile / mess of stumps, roots, and other brush. Took about 3 gallons of waste oil and 15 gallons of diesel, but got a good chunk of the pile to burn. About the only thing that didn't were the stumps. That's Ryans bulldog chopper in the foreground, trigger is getting big, but not nearly that big yet.

Yesterday my friend Ryan and I worked down at the lot. We had to take the grade down about 4 feet or so, and still its a pretty good incline. Going to smooth things out tonight a little bit more and see what it's like in my truck.
Here are some pictures from late last week after I popped all the stumps with my excavator. It's a little on the rough looking side right now but hopefully that will begin to change.

This a view looking up the driveway towards the lot. The brush pile on the right is now in a big jumbled mess mixed with stones and stumps. Not sure what I will do with that mess. If all else fails I'll just dig a big hole with the excavator and bury it.

I was clearing some brush and found these two lady slippers, then I found some more, then I found some more. I must have found about 30 of them. I thought they were supposed to be rare. Guess not around area. On Saturday I was coming back from getting a drink and was walking up where the driveway will be and there was a red fox just sitting there watching me. I yelled to him and he ran off into the woods a little ways and just sat down and watched me walk past. It reminded me alot of my puppy the way he just sat on his butt and watched me.

Here's a picture of the lot. The two hemlocks in the back of the photo are in the general area of where the cabin will be constructed. This picture is a little dated...and the hemlocks are cut down, and alot of the small hardwood trees are cut up into firewood. The stumps in the foreground are dug up and in a pile to the right now. This view is taken from where the driveway will come into the yard. I'm going to stop and get a better camera tonight on my way home from work.

From April 2010 - June 1

Since I am not that organized I figured this would be a good way to keep track of the progress towards my new house. I have decided to use a log home contractor out of Vermont for the project. His name is Brant Schreiber and builds homes using a Scandinavian Full- S
cribe method. His website is mountainlogworks.com Back in April my parents and I went up to Vermont to his log yard, met with him and saw some of his work. These guys are very talented and it's crazy how good the houses had come out. So far I don't have any construction done per se, but have been busy clearing the lot, and getting my equipment there. The excavator and tractor were dropped off a couple of weeks ago and the dozer should be coming sometime this week.
